Le Moulin de mon Couer M9, Fressiniere
It was about time Tim Emmett, Ian Parnell and I checked out this elusive ice climbing venue near Argentiere le Besse in the heart of the French Alps. The challenge for me would be dissuading Tim (who had just earned his BASE jumping wings) from launching himself off the summit of the Tete de Gramusat! This huge vertical face features testing thin ice and mixed routes of over 8 pitches in length. Ian and I bagged Central Scrutinizer WI 6 / M6 early in the trip and we narrowly missed out on the testpiece of the wall, La Moulin de Mon Couer, WI 6 M9 after Ian dropped an axe on the fourth pitch! The lower-lying dry tooling crags also provided us with some choice entertainment and I was pleased to flash my first M9 with the aid of beta from our host Giles Cornah.
